Jolly Swagman’s springtime blooms win first place in the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers
The team at the Jolly Swagman Accommodation Park were thrilled to receive first place in The Chronicle’s Garden Competition in the Motels and Caravan Parks category during the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers in September.
With a background in farming, caretaker and green thumb Brad Goltz said the key to creating a beautiful garden was to ensure plenty of ‘TLC’ is given, not only when the plants are flowering, but in the months prior to planting. “We usually start sourcing plants in January and getting the soil ready with lots of mulch before we plant. After planting, we use a good quality fertiliser – Crop King 88 is the best one”.
Brad also recommended using hardy plants like petunias, snapdragons, and geraniums for the perfect flowering garden. “You need plants that can handle frost as well as the heat. With the seedlings planted in May, they need to be in good condition by Spring, so these types of plants work best.”
We look forward to seeing the fantastic colour schemes and designs that Brad and Kerri are already planning for next year’s competition.
